Great Gifts for you Dog From a 3 year old

I really felt that this was a very funny story that I needed to share with everyone. My three year old neice Cali decided that she wanted to give my dog Gizmo a gift. According to my sister, she spent hours thinking about what she should give him. The next day I went to their house and she was so excited about this gift that she had made for Gizmo. I looked and her and asked her what is was, and she told me to follow her. She walk over to the fridge and opened the door. I thought to myself oh no she has made him something that he needs to eat and I am going to feel bad that I can't give it to him. But, sure enough she pulled out this freezer bag and in was some cut up colored construction paper. She looked and me with much excitement in her eyes and said, Gizmo is going to love it right? I did the only thing a loving Aunt could do and said, of course he will love it. She go so excided and asked me to give it to him that night and call her to tell her his reaction. I said ok but, Cali I have one question. Why was it in the fridge? She looked at me as if I had just asked the dumbest question in the world and said, because you have to keep it cold. I said ok good answer. She when I got home that evening I told Gizmo that I had a suprise for him and pulled the freezer bag out of my purse opened it up and emptyed out the colored construction paper on the floor. Gizmo looked at me with this look as if why are you doing this and then he decide to lay and roll around on the paper. I picked up the phone and called Cali to tell her that Gizmo loved his gift very much. She was so excided to her that he liked it and now everytime I go to her house I bring home a bag of colored consturction paper for Gizmo. With the directions for Cali to make sure I put it in the fridge to keep it cool when Gizmo is not playing with it.

Dog Parks!!!!

If you want to have a good time with your dog and don't have a place for them to run free and enjoy being a dog, a good place to consider is a local dog park. This is a place where you can take your dog and they are free to run leash free and enjoy themselves with other dogs. To find a local dog park near you go to http://www.ecoanimal.com/dogfun or just do a google search for a dog park in your area.

SpringTime!!!

It has become that time of year where your dog will be wanting to spend more time outside. Please remember that if you take your dog to a public park make sure keep them on a leash for safety. But most of all remember to have fun and enjoy your time together.

Pet Resorts!!!

Things to keep in mind when choosing a place to send you Dog!
1. Make sure there is a large place for them to play
2. Ask about what will been done in case of an emergency
3. Make sure your dog is comfortable
4. Make sure that there is an outside and indoor area for you dog to go that is safe for them to use the restroom and play
5. Get references if possible
6. Make sure you inform the resort of any special needs your dog has
7. Make sure to bring plunty of food for your dog
8. Make sure the resort knows your dogs feeding habits
9. Make sure your dog has their favorite toy with them at the resort to remind them of you.

Doggie Resorts!

Here resently I had to send my dog Gizmo to a doggie/pet resort. I was nervous about it at first because the place that I usually send him to was all booked up and I had to send he to a resort that I didn't know much about. I ended up sending him to Happy Tails Pet Resort in Lanesville, IN. When I went to drop him off I was nervous but soon I realized that the owners and resort was very nice and I felt very comfortable. When sending your dog to a resort to be boarded here are a few things to keep in mind.
1. It is helpful if you have time to go and see the place and tour it before taking your pet there.
2. Make sure that you pet is comfortable before you leave them.
3. Make sure that the resort has all contact information including an emergency contact number in case of an emergency.
Over all the experience was a good one and I will send Gizmo there again.

Spoiled Rotten Dog of the Week! Sam!

My name is Sam. I live with 2 people that I love a lot. They let me get away with a lot of stuff. All I do is show them my big brown eyes that are blood shot, and they give in. When it is time for dinner they get their plates and i get my plate too, which includes the same food that they are eating. When I am ready for my namp I will sleep on the floor or go the couch and put my head on the pillows so they will move them so I can lay down. If they are sitting on the couch when I lay down, I kept looking at them till they know I am wanting my rub now, which must include both hands not just one. I love to go on car rides. Sometimes I even let my humans go to. Just to get them out of the house for a while. I jump up and down so they can see that I am happy that they are going with me. Yes my life is hard but I would not have it any other way!

It's not easy being GREEN!

It's not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold...or something much more colorful like that.
It's not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ord'nary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
or stars in the sky.
But green's the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.

How much Dogs CARE

Today I learned that no matter what I do a dog is truely mans best friend. I have been having a bad week and it seemed as if no one could make be feel better. Than last night my dog Gizmo just decided that he was going to. He looked at me with those adorable eyes and laid down in the bed with me and just showed me that he loved me as much as I loved him. I really do think that dogs know when their human is unhappy or having a bad day. And all it takes is them wanting to lay beside you or be with you and look at you with those eyes, and you know that things will be alright. That's why everyone on should have a dog!!!! To always have someone to talk to when no human will do.

Valentine’s Day with that special someone!

Valentine's Day is the perfect time to show and shower your spoiled rotten puppy that you love them. How can you show these family members how special they are? Here are some ideas from our friends at americanhumane.org.

Give them a pet-friendly Valentine's Day treat.Offer your dog a new chew toy or bone. Whichever treat you choose, though, remember: No Chocolate!!! Chocolate can be toxic to dogs. And that is definitely something no one wants to deal with.
Buy or make something special.Perhaps your dog would like a new bed or new rhinestone collar. Get creative!

Spend some quality time with your pet.

Go for a long walk, plan a special grooming session, or curl up together for a good cuddle.

Celebrate Valentine's Day by enhancing the bond you share -- your pet will love it!

Doggie Valentine's Day Cookies

According to eHow.com
here is a fun little recipe for your dog on Valentines Day!

Show your dog you love them in a special way on Valentine's Day. Make them heart-shaped, delicious doggie treats! Will they realize the treats are heart-shaped? No, but they'll know you love them because you gave them treats!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy (10 easy steps)

Ingredients
· 3 1/2 cups flour
· 2 cups rye flour
· 1 cup corn meal
· 1/2 cup dry milk
· 2 cups cracked wheat
· 4 teaspoons sea salt
· 1 packet active dry yeast
· 1/4 cup warm (almost hot) water
· 2 to 2 1/2 cups water, beef broth or chicken broth (your choice)
· 1 large egg, beaten + 1 Tablespoon milk
· Cookie sheets
· Rolling pin
· Small and large bowl
· Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Steps

Step One
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Step Two
Mix the first six ingredients in a large bowl.

Step Three
Sprinkle yeast over the almost hot water and stir in a small bowl.

Step Four
Add the yeast plus 2 cups of your choice of broth to the dry ingredients.

Step Five
Using your hands, mix well. If it is done properly, the dough should have a rather stiff consistency. If it is too difficult to work with, add a bit more broth to the mixture.

Step Six
On a flat, floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Step Seven
Using your heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out shapes from the dough.

Step Eight
The cookie sheets should not be greased. Place the heart-shaped cut outs onto the ungreased cookie sheets. Brush with the egg and milk mixture.

Step Nine
Bake the treats at 300 degress for about 45 minutes. At the end of that time, don't remove them from the oven. Simply turn off the oven and leave the baked treats in the oven overnight.

Step Ten
Remove the treats from the oven the next morning and voila, you have delicious biscuit treats for your favorite pet!

GROUP SET TO PAIR 10,000 VALENTINES WITH CHAINED DOGS DURING "HAVE A HEART FOR CHAINED DOGS"

WEEK, FEB. 7-14
SEEKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS, CLUBS, GROUPS, AND INDIVIDUALS TO MAKE VALENTINES FOR DELIVERY TO CHAINED DOGS NATIONWIDE
Tipton, PA -- January 06, 2008 --

As Valentine’s Day approaches, non-profit Dogs Deserve Better is asking for help from dog lovers and others in an unusual direct mail outreach which pairs Valentines created by schoolchildren with America's chained dogs.
Dogs Deserve Better, a national rescue and advocacy group dedicated to ending the suffering endured by perpetually chained dogs, annually sends Valentines and dog treat coupons to chained canines across the country. The group includes a brochure for the dog’s caretakers, explaining why the antiquated practice of chaining dogs for their lives is a form of abuse. The materials encourage people to bring their dogs into the home and family or to find better homes for the animals.
By the end of January, the group needs 10,000 addresses for perpetually chained dogs, volunteers to make the Valentines, and donations of coupons for dog treats or dog food.
“Winter is a critical time to reach out directly to the people who chain their dogs, and what better excuse than Valentine’s Day to send these forgotten animals a little love,” says Tammy Grimes, founder and director of the five-year-old non-profit. “Every winter our rescuers see dogs that have frozen in the snow, suffered frostbite, or otherwise endured horrific living conditions because of the longstanding misperception that it is appropriate to chain a dog outside in any kind of weather.”
“This is the perfect opportunity for people who pass chained dogs every day, or who live next door to these poor animals, but feel powerless to make a difference,” continues Grimes. “People can anonymously provide us with the addresses of these dogs, or perhaps make a batch of Valentines, and we do the rest.”
Dogs Deserve Better sees success stories every year from its grassroots direct mail campaign. “Of course, we get angry calls from people who are mired in habit or tradition and don’t see anything wrong with chaining a dog for 10 or 15 years. However, on the flip side, we always learn of situations where the recipients of our Valentines take the opportunity to think about the suffering they are causing and either bring the dog inside or find the dog a better home.”
The creation of the Valentines is an ideal project for schools, scouting troops, and other similar organizations. “Children have a natural affinity for animals and they enjoy making art projects,” says Grimes, an artist herself.
Although the practice of 24/7 chaining is pervasive in many parts of the country, especially in rural areas, states and cities have, in recent years, started to pass laws against the practice. California passed a law in 2006 and Texas followed suit in 2007. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and South Carolina are among the states currently considering laws that would put reasonable limits on how long a dog may be chained outdoors.
Hundreds of cities have passed, or are considering, similar legislation.
Meanwhile, countless “backyard dogs” are spending yet another winter in the cold. Often, they shiver day and night in leaky, uninsulated doghouses, suffer from thirst because their water is frozen, and pace neurotically from lack of exercise and attention. Perpetually chained dogs can become aggressive or insane from their constant confinement, often posing a danger to people.
Dogs Deserve Better provides a variety of services to people who agree to take their dogs off their chains, including providing help with socialization, housetraining, and fencing.

Gizmo is my baby boy who is 3 years old. He came into my life when I was looking for a dog that was small enough to have in an apartment but still had personality. Since we have been together I have learned a lot about Gizmo. I have found that he is very loyal, will love you unconditionally, very stubborn, and once he was spoiled rotten there was no turning back. Gizmo pretty much gets his way all the time.

Some facts about Gizmo “Baby Boy” Ross

Why do people spoil there DOGS!!!!

The dog has been a household name for many people, for many years. So what is it about these adorable creatures that makes us want to spoil them rotten?
Well being a proud dog owner myself I have learned over the years that spoiling a dog can become a very easy thing to do. It first starts out with the day you bring that new adorable puppy home. Within hours this cute little thing has become a member of the family. They are just so loyal to you, that you feel that in return you should show them some loyalty too. But, I guess the real question should be Why shouldn’t we spoil our DOGS? Every dog deserves the love they give you in return and for that reason alone is why we spoil them rotten.
